Things to Consider Before Choosing Barcode Verification Services

Some manufacturers do not produce their own barcodes for their products.  They find it much cheaper to actually outsource this labor, but giving a job to the lowest bidder is not always the best thing to do.  When it comes to barcode verification the importance cannot be understated.  If a barcode is printed incorrectly a box, pallet or entire shipment might leave and go to the wrong destination all because of one number off or the way the barcode has to be read.  In business this can become a costly mistake that will cause the manufacturer to incur expenses they should not be faced with.

As a manufacturer, if you want to outsource your barcode verification services here are some points to consider:

•    Types – You want to have a variety of types of barcodes to choose from.  Even if you start with simple barcodes you may need specialty codes and RFID tags later in the relationship.

•    Recommendations – Let the service recommend what they think will work for your business.  If they are the experts at barcodes and their uses this is how you are going to have the right codes for your business.

•    Productivity – Figure out how the barcodes can be used to make the business more productive overall.

•    Equipment – What equipment will need to be on site at your facility and what will need to be done ahead of the barcodes being brought in to be put on the products? This is an extremely important part of the process.

•    Quality – What is the quality verification process that is used?  Are the barcodes verified before being brought to the site or are they going to be verified on site?

•    Training – Will the company train your employees to properly use the barcodes they produce for you?  This is an important part of a symbiotic relationship between two companies that are trying to work together.
